Outline Course Content

Today’s VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) world of clinical development is characterized by various sources of complexity which are both, opportunity and threat at the same time. Besides the actual increase in the complexity of the clinical trial designs itself, this usually goes along with  1. an increasing number of involved parties – usually combined with various models of specialization, outsourcing and staffing, 2. the wish and necessity to make use of state-of-the art technology and processes for a smooth patient journey throughout the trial as well as improved patient outcomes as a result, and 3. the resulting need of an efficient enabling organization which recognizes the various dependencies and (data- and process-) interfaces between the used software tools and people working on a trial.

In this session, we will provide an overview into how Boehringer Ingelheim is striving towards streamlining Clinical Development, here especially in Data Management and its connected functions. Part of this initiative is a different understanding of the “classic” Data Manager role which is adapted to the need for more speed and value in the growing Complexity of Clinical Development. This goes along with the vision to define processes and data flows in a more holistic e2e-fashion, and the potential innovative technologies to leverage this vision. In this context, we will also outline how our approach of organizing ourselves as capabilities will empower the key roles involved in clinical development for an efficient and cross-functional collaboration for a speedy generation of evidence. In Addition, we’ll be sharing success stories and challenges on our journey towards our vision of a single source of truth bolstering the accuracy and effectiveness of data-driven decision making for the benefits of our patients.
