Use of computer systems in clinical research has evolved over the past 35 years, from paper-based processes to remote data capture, electronic data capture, cloud-based platforms, RPA, and more recently, AI. Core functional roles in clinical research, such as Clinical Data Managers, have always depended on computer and IT specialists. With the rapid advances in agentic AI, will we still need the same level of technical support?
Computer engineers, system builders, programmers, and configuration specialists currently support data managers and other core clinical research functions. Increasingly, many of these activities can be augmented or automated by AI agents. Data managers can interact with these agents using natural language prompts to request what they need, and the agents execute the required tasks.
Across study set-up, conduct, and close-out phases, we have reimagined several process steps that can now be handled by AI agents without requiring deep technical expertise. This session will introduce the CDM Intelli Workbench, designed as a companion for data managers throughout the clinical trial lifecycle.
