ACDM26 Berlin: Shaping the Future of Clinical Data Management

Date: April 22, 2026

The ACDM Annual Conference returned to Berlin in March 2026, welcoming the global clinical data management community for three days of learning, discussion and professional connection. ACDM26 once again demonstrated the strength, diversity and maturity of the profession, bringing together colleagues from sponsors, CROs, technology providers, academia and healthcare to explore both current challenges and future opportunities.

The conference programme was wide‑ranging and thoughtfully constructed, combining strategic insight with practical application. Key topics included practical uses of artificial intelligence, evolving data and system standards, risk‑based quality management, USDM, eCOA, and the implications of ICH E6 (R3). These technical themes were complemented by sessions focused on leadership, communication and critical thinking—recognising that successful data management relies as much on people and judgement as it does on processes and technology.

Artificial intelligence was a particularly strong and recurring theme throughout ACDM26. Rather than focusing on theory alone, many sessions explored real‑world implementation, human‑centred design, governance considerations and lessons learned from both successes and failures. This balanced approach encouraged honest discussion around how AI can genuinely support quality, efficiency and decision‑making, while reinforcing the continued importance of clinical data management expertise, accountability and oversight.

Beyond the formal programme, ACDM26 was characterised by a highly collaborative and open atmosphere. Informal discussions, workshops and networking events enabled delegates to share experiences, compare approaches and build new professional relationships. These conversations reinforced a shared commitment to high‑quality, patient‑focused clinical research, and highlighted the value of community in navigating an increasingly complex regulatory and technological landscape.

The conference also provided an opportunity to reflect on how the role of the clinical data manager continues to evolve. Across sessions, there was a clear message that adaptability, critical thinking and cross‑functional collaboration are now essential competencies, alongside strong technical foundations.

In keeping with the spirit of ACDM26 and its focus on innovation, this article was drafted using Microsoft Copilot, reflecting the growing role of AI as a practical support tool in professional work. The final article was reviewed by the ACDM26 Conference Chairs prior to publication.

The success of ACDM26 is a testament to the dedication of the ACDM community, the Programme Committee, speakers, sponsors and attendees who collectively contributed to an engaging and impactful conference. As conversations continue beyond Berlin, ACDM26 will be remembered not only for its content, but for the shared sense of purpose and momentum it generated for the future of clinical data management.

We look forward to seeing you at ACDM27 in Oslo for an extra special conference celebrating 40 years of ACDM.
